OUTREACH PROGRAM
In early 2016 in an effort to help new Syrian families learn to play hockey the GCMHA welcomed 16 new participants into the Initiation Program from mid January to March. Not only was this a success, but made the organization realize that there was a greater need within our community.
Here is the
video that CBC produced on our program
A new Community Outreach Program open to anyone within our association’s boundaries has been created to help try and get kids who otherwise wouldn’t be able to play, learning and enjoying hockey in our program.
This is a new initiative. There will be a learning curve. But if as a community we work together it is possible.
HOW WE CAN HELP
The new Outreach program is not meant to replace or duplicate programs which already exist, but to help families apply (hopefully successfully)for subsidies from other organizations, provide free hockey equipment to those in need and have a central location where information can be found, either about hockey, how the equipment works or trying to find rides to games etc… for families who need them.
